Star Binders will start going home tomorrow, September 9th!
STAR
(Students Taking Academic Responsibility)
The
STAR binder is a way for parents and teachers to communicate effectively. This is also a great way for students to
become academically responsible. They
will be in charge of their binder. J Here are the goals for the binder.
DO
· Take very good care of your STAR - we will be using it all year
long!
· Take your STAR home every day and bring it
back to school the next morning. This
is very important!
· Show your parents your STAR every night and finish any
homework in it.
· Put your finished homework back
inside your STAR.
· Use the Shooting Star pocket to
get your important things to school safely – permission slips, book orders, bus
notes, etc.
· Use the activities in your STAR to practice your sight words,
Math home links, and on-level book (to come) every night.
DON’T
· Leave your STAR at home, on the bus, in the
car, or at a friend's house.
· Get your STAR dirty; don't eat or drink
around your STAR.
· Write in or on your STAR or put any stickers on it.
· Put extra papers in your STAR.
· Take pages out of your STAR - leave everything in your
binder that is not in the back pocket labeled “To Keep At Home”.
CALENDAR
There
will be a calendar that should stay in your child’s binder for the entire month. I will try to put all known important dates
on the calendar (some dates I will not know ahead of time). Each day your child will mark where their
clip was on the class behavior chart. They will do this at the end of the day
before they pack up to go home. I
realize this is printed in black and white so I will explain the clip
chart. PLEASE know that Happy Camper and
above is a very good place to be! DO NOT
feel bad, and your child has been told not to feel bad if they are not above
Happy Camper. J
Junior Ranger: pink
S’more Great
Effort: purple
I’m on the right
trail!: blue
Happy Camper: green
Don’t Get Lost: yellow
Something Stinks: orange
Parent Contact: red
I
will send home a note if your child was on yellow (more than once; as they can
move up and down throughout the day), orange or red. They will conference with me during recess to
talk about why their clip was moved down based on our classroom rules. The rules are as follows:
#1: I will follow
directions quickly #2:
I will raise my hand to speak
#3: I will use helpful
hands and words #4: I will make smart
choices
#5: I will use inside
voices #6:
I will help make teacher happy
Note: #6 is only there
to remind the children that following rules 1-5 will help teacher and our whole
classroom happy and running smoothly! J
Please
sign and return the note, just so that I know you received the note and it
didn’t get lost somewhere on the way home from school. J
