March 3^rd: Imax Theatre here for reading month!

(2^nd grade has organized reading month this year.  Our copier was down again yesterday so they could not send home the note about the movie until today.  That is also why the newsletter went home today!)

Math: This week Friday we will have our Unit 5 test, which means we will have the review on Thursday.  I will be sending home the Homework Review this week.  Please help your child finish the review and then sign it and return it to me so that they may earn a nickel! 

Writing: We have just started studying craft.  We have been paying attention to certain things that author’s do in books to make the text interesting.  We have especially been looking at Roller Coaster by Marla Frazee.  This is a really fun book and Ms. Frazee does a great job using the words to reel in her readers!  We will soon be reading Rain Stomper and Owl Babies as well to see how these authors differ from Ms. Frazee.  Then the children will begin to use their own techniques to write stories.

Reading/Science: We have been studying a lot of non-fiction texts, especially about animals.  We will also be looking at the moon phases and our solar system.  The children also learned about sound waves from Ms. Frizzle on the Magic School Bus!

Word Study: ask your child about the Magic e rule.  We have been studying magic e for 3 weeks now and they love it! J  There are a lot of short magic e clips on youtube!
